It's Tony Time!

It's Tony Time!

Tony Nominations are in.  Although I've seen quite a few I'll be making my mad dash to catch the four musicals mentioned that have yet escaped me!  Hedwig and the Angry Inch was already top of my list.  Les Mis, Cabaret and Casa Valentina are the shows I'm hoping to take in before June 8th.

The shocker to me, but probably not anyone else, was  "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder".  I saw it and just didn't like it.  I'm not a fan of English Comedy but if you are, the acting is suburb, the slapstick outlandish and, obviously, everyone else loved it enough to put it at the top of the list.

Of the four nominations I would choose "Beautiful, The Carole King Story", it was purely Beautiful!  Aladdin is Disney and all that Disney has to offer with sets and costumes, magic and much, much more!  After Midnight was high-energy entertainment from start to finish!  Big band music of Duke Ellington, glamorous, exciting and fun.  But I still loved Beautiful more.  This will be an interesting race, most are betting on "A Gentlemen's Guide to Love and Murder".

As for Best Actress in a Musical, four of the actresses are from my four favorites this year, Sutton Foster for Violet, Idina Menzel for If/Then, Kelli O'Hara for Bridges of Madison County and Jessie Mueller for Beautiful!  Tough choice, loved all four women and all four shows.  Mary Bridget Davis is also in there for A Night with Janis Joplin and I can only imagine she was amazing, but I haven't seen it so I'd love to hear from you if you have.

From what I hear, Neil Patrick Harris is a shoe in winner of Best Actor in a Musical for Hedwig and the Angry Inch!  They say he is off the charts!  This is sad for Ramin Karimloo in Les Mis and Andy Karl from Rocky.   Maybe either Jefferson Mays or Bryce Pinkam have a chance because they were in A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder!

I won't go through all the categories but I do want to mention Joshua Henry is up for Violet and James Monroe Iglehart for the Genie in Aladdin.  Of the nominees in that particular category, the Genie would be hard to beat but, James Monroe Iglehart is a real show stopper, heart throb too!

Let's see what happens!
